Self-Isolation Requirement for Nurses Traveling to the UK

Self-Isolation Requirement for Nurses Traveling to the UK| Global Nurse Force

When you arrive in the UK, you will not be allowed to leave the place where you’re staying for 14 days unless you’re arriving from an exempt country.

A list of countries exempt from self-isolation measures is available here.

Public Health Passenger Locator Form

Before you travel to the UK, you should gather:

  • your passport
  • your travel details, including times and dates
  • the address where you will be staying in the UK

You will be required to complete a public health passenger locator form online 48 hours before you arrive in England. You must present these details upon your arrival by presenting either:

  • a printed copy of the document attached to your confirmation email
  • or the document attached to the confirmation email on your phone

Border Force officers will use the QR code at the top of the document to check you have completed the form successfully.

The government will use the information you give to contact you if you or someone you’ve traveled with develops coronavirus symptoms.

Why is it important to self-isolate

It can take you up to 14 days to develop coronavirus symptoms after you catch the virus. During this time, you can unknowingly pass it on to others, even if you don’t have any symptoms.

Self-isolating will reduce the severity of a second wave of coronavirus in the UK and help prevent family, friends and the community from contracting the virus. It will also help to protect the NHS.

How do you get to the place you will be self-isolating

At Global Nurse Force, we make sure our nurses are picked up at the airport and taken directly to the place where they will be staying by private vehicles so they do not have to use public transport.

How do you self-isolate in your accommodation

You should self-isolate in one place for the full 14 days and stay away from others. You cannot go to work or visit any public places during this period.

Global Nurse Force will ensure that you have food and other necessities delivered to your temporary accommodation.

After self-isolating for 14 days

If you do not have any coronavirus symptoms after 14 days, you can stop self-isolating. You will then need to follow the same rules as people who live in the UK.

What to do if you get coronavirus symptoms

You should look for any of the following symptoms in the 14 days after the day you arrive in the UK: new continuous cough, high temperature or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

If you have any of these symptoms, you should continue to self-isolate at home. If you are staying with others and you develop symptoms, the whole household that you are staying with will need to begin self-isolating.

You should apply for a test if you have the symptoms of coronavirus. You can register for a test on the NHS website. If you do not have internet access, you should call NHS 119 to arrange for a test.

If your test for coronavirus is positive you will be asked to share your contacts with the NHS Test and Trace service and your contact detail declaration may be used to alert people who travelled to the UK alongside you.

If you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home, or your condition gets worse, then use the NHS 111 online coronavirus (COVID-19) service. If you do not have internet access, call NHS 111. For a medical emergency dial 999.

Stay alert and practice safe social distancing

You should continue to avoid close contact and remain socially distant from anyone you do not live with.

You should wash your hands regularly and wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces where social distancing is difficult and there are people you do not normally meet.

You are required by law to wear face coverings on public transport, and in shops, supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, banks, building societies, post offices, and indoor transport hubs.

These steps will help to protect yourself and anyone you come into contact with and is critical to keeping everyone safe.
