Sujitha’s Story: From Band 4 Nurse to Clinical Practice Educator

Hailing from India, Sujitha embarked on her international journey as a Band 4 nurse in the UK five years ago. Today, she flourishes as a Clinical Practice Educator, sharing her expertise and passion with colleagues in the National Health Service (NHS).

Can you elaborate on your career journey?

“Starting as a Band 4 nurse in 2018, I completed the OSCE and transitioned to a Band 5 role in cardiothoracic ICU. I actively participated in quality projects, mentored new nurses, and became an integral part of the team. Within three years, my dedication was recognized, and I was promoted to Band 6 Sister in Charge. In 2022, my passion for teaching led me to pursue a new role as a Clinical Practice Educator, where I currently guide colleagues in using the new electronic patient record system, Hive.”

Describe your experience as an international nurse in the UK.

“It’s been a rewarding yet challenging journey. Adapting to a new healthcare system and cultural nuances initially presented hurdles. However, the UK offered incredible opportunities for those willing to work hard and pursue their passion. I thoroughly enjoy my current role and wholeheartedly recommend the UK to anyone seeking a fulfilling career in healthcare.

Have you faced specific challenges as a woman in healthcare?

“Initially, the biggest challenge was adapting to the different healthcare system and navigating cultural differences. However, I never lost sight of my passion and persevered. With support, I overcame these challenges and emerged stronger.”

What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare?

“My inspiration comes from my mother, an excellent nurse herself. Witnessing her dedication to caring for others ignited my own passion for this noble profession.”

“Embrace your strengths, pursue your passion with unwavering dedication, and never underestimate your capabilities. With hard work and perseverance, you can achieve great things, both in your home country and abroad.”

What are your hopes for the future of women in healthcare?

“I envision a future where women hold leadership positions, drive innovation, and play an even more significant role in shaping the future of healthcare. With continued support and empowerment, we can collectively achieve this goal.”
